“For creation waits expectantly and long’s earnestly for God’s sons to
Be made known (waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship). Romans 8:19

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you have now received not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption (the spirit producing sonship)! Romans 8:14-15

Over a decade ago my husband had a revelatory dream which I believe pertains to us today. He was in a very dangerous situation with our two old son. The climax of the dream required him to place our son on a fire engulfed conveyer belt. The agony and pain my husband felt went beyond words. He woke up from this nightmare covered in sweat. After much praying the Lord finally gave him relief as to the meaning. Son, “You are the 2 year old boy. I needed you to see through the eyes of a father to understand my love for you. However, the only way for sonship to be brought to fullness will be by going through this process that will be uncomfortable at times. Take comfort in knowing you are MY son and I will never leave you. The process is to place you into inheritance.”

Sonship is not about the becoming of a son, rather it is the PLACING OF A SON. It’s the placing of mature sons into their inheritance. For example, the moment a child is born that child is a son or daughter. They don’t know it yet, but this doesn’t change the facts. However, this son or daughter is being groomed with inheritance in mind. The larger the inheritance the more dedicated the parents tend to be in seeing to it that their children will be ready to carry its weight. The Father has been faithful. He has loved you with a passion and delight. Just as in the dream referenced at the beginning, if there was ever a need to be placed in uncomfortable places it was always with inheritance in mind.

The Spirit of adoption continues to work within us producing sonship. Our identity should first and foremost come from here. So, what does fullness or complete maturity in sonship look like? I believe looking at Jesus, the Son of God gives us a pretty clear picture.

PRAYER/QUESTIONS:

  1. In Luke 2:41-49- “Did you not know this it is necessary for Me to be in My Fathers house and occupied in My Fathers business.” What Fathers business do you believe the Lord has called you to as a son? Are you currently occupying that place?
  2. When we talk about sonship, what does this mean to you? Review the above scriptures.
  3. When looking at the life of Jesus, what can you assume inheritance and full maturity of sonship looks like for the church?
